Challenge: Design an attractive multisite solution that makes information access easy for visitors.
Solution: The Washougal School District needed a website that effectively engaged the community, streamlined communications and was responsive to all device types. With the help of a committee assembled by the district, we were able to define the organizational needs of the website, plus identify content areas that best promote the strengths of the district. This pushed us full force into sifting through massive amounts of content and creating navigational structures that best supported a seamless user experience. When it was time to head back to school, we launched the district site with rave reviews. Jocelyn Shedden said, “I found it much easier to use on both my desktop and my smartphone… I really like the new look and I anticipate using it often in the coming school year.”
The results were so positive that the district decided to consider a multisite approach that would allow all the schools in the district to use the same template. Again, we met and discussed the unique features needed for each school. We developed each site and then held a training for website managers throughout the district. As with all of our clients, we wanted Washougal School District to have control of their content and an understanding of how to use the tools we created for them. D Studio 21 was a great partner in building a multisite solution for our schools. They conducted a needs analysis, met with multiple stakeholder groups, and developed prototypes for each school. They did a great job balancing the need for individual schools to have an identity, but for the overall project to have a common set of tools, navigation, and feel. The sites are responsive and look great on mobile devices and all browsers. We get really positive feedback from site visitors about the new designs!
